Stainless Steel Card Mirror Buying Guide: Materials, 8K Finish & Production
CHOIZIN / MATERIAL & PRODUCTION GUIDE
From mirror insert
to finished product.
Choose the steel, check the reflection, and plan the sleeve or frame. A practical buying guide built around how our card mirrors are sampled and produced.

Actual CHOIZIN product photography · SPF-0051
When sourcing stainless steel card mirrors, confirm both the reflective insert and the finished product structure. CHOIZIN normally uses 201 stainless steel with an 8K mirror-polished finish, in thicknesses from 0.5 to 1.0 mm. The insert is usually combined with a leather sleeve, leather frame or another frame before final packaging.
This guide explains what to confirm before sampling, tooling and bulk production, based on CHOIZIN's product and manufacturing experience.

Define the delivery scope: mirror insert or finished product?
A stainless steel mirror is often a component of a finished item. An insert-only quotation and a quotation for an assembled, packaged product cover different work.
- Mirror insert only: specify material, thickness, outline, reflective finish, logo and protective film.
- Assembled product: also specify the leather sleeve, leather frame or other supporting structure and how the parts fit together.
- Packaged finished product: add packaging, labels, presentation and carton requirements.
If you already have a sleeve or frame, provide a physical sample or dimensioned drawing. Confirm the insert dimensions against that structure, including the exposed mirror area and logo position. An insert can meet its own drawing yet still fit poorly into an existing frame.
Choosing 201, 304 or 316 stainless steel
201 stainless steel is CHOIZIN's usual material for conventional card mirror projects. In our product experience, it is generally sufficient for ordinary portable mirror, promotional gift and accessory applications.
Customers with special requirements can request 304, 316 or another specified grade for project review. Provide the exact grade, applicable material standard, intended environment and any material documentation or testing requirements before material procurement.
Material grade and reflection quality need separate approval. A specified grade does not by itself confirm the polishing result or the flatness of the finished insert. Where environmental or compliance requirements apply, identify the destination market and exact requirements for the material, printing, other components and finished product. Documentation must match the agreed project.
What should an 8K mirror finish look like?
CHOIZIN uses an 8K mirror-polished surface. Based on our product experience, a clean, flat insert can provide visual clarity close to a conventional clear glass mirror during normal use. Confirm the effect with physical samples for your project.
Here, “8K” describes the mirror surface finish; it is not a digital display resolution. In our sample-selection experience, some products described as 8K still show a hazy reflection. The label alone is therefore insufficient for approval.
| Check | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Clarity | Look at facial details under ordinary indoor lighting and check for a cloudy or misty appearance. |
| Distortion | Observe a face and straight objects while slightly changing the viewing angle. Check for unacceptable warping. |
| Surface condition | Change the light angle to inspect scratches, contamination and visible processing marks. |
| After assembly | Repeat the reflection check once the insert is fitted into the intended frame. |
Remove the protective film as instructed and clean fingerprints or oil before comparing samples. Use the same lighting, viewing distance and angle for each sample. Retain an approved physical sample and agree the inspection conditions rather than relying only on “8K” in the order description.
Approval tip: keep an agreed physical sample and compare under the same lighting, distance and angle. “8K” describes the finish, not a screen resolution.
Choosing a thickness from 0.5 to 1.0 mm
CHOIZIN's usual thickness range is 0.5–1.0 mm. With comparable material, dimensions and shape, a thicker insert generally resists bending better, while increasing weight and material use.
Choose thickness together with the finished structure. Check the available space in the sleeve or frame, total product weight, support behind the insert and any pressure applied during fitting. For a larger or unusual outline, evaluate the actual finished shape.
Approve a sample that matches the intended dimensions and assembly. An unprocessed sheet or a different-size insert cannot establish the final fit and reflection. Thickness mainly affects structural behavior; polishing and finished flatness also affect the viewing result.

Different outlines need a matching structure
Beyond rectangular and square card mirrors, shaped inserts should be sampled with their own sleeve or frame. These examples illustrate formats; material grade and insert thickness remain order-specific.

Laser-cut samples
Laser cutting is suitable for developing samples and checking dimensions, outlines and component fit while a design is still being adjusted. In CHOIZIN's normal workflow, it is used for sampling rather than as the preferred method for bulk card mirror production.
Stamping dies
We normally use stamping dies for bulk outlines because the process is faster for our volume production. Confirm length, width, corner radii, holes and the fit with the supporting structure before tooling.
A laser-cut development sample does not establish every detail of the stamped result. Confirm the edges, dimensions and assembly of the production-process sample as applicable. If the outline changes later, ask whether tooling changes and additional charges are required.
Inspect for burrs, sharp areas, inconsistent corners and unevenness around holes. Approve the edge feel as well as the front appearance.
Logo options: laser marking, screen printing and digital printing
These are the logo methods CHOIZIN commonly uses. The artwork, colors, position, quantity and desired effect should guide the selection.
| Method | What to approve on the sample |
|---|---|
| Laser marking | Mark appearance, contrast and the reproduction of small text or fine lines. |
| Screen printing | Color, position, image edges and adhesion requirements. |
| Digital printing | The actual reproduction of full-color artwork, gradients and fine detail. |
Send suitable artwork and mark its dimensions and location. Confirm the layout on the drawing, then approve the actual process effect on a physical sample. If color matching, rubbing resistance or cleaning resistance matters, state the requirement and agree the evaluation method before production.
For framed mirrors, position the logo using the final visible area. Check that the frame does not cover the logo or leave less usable mirror area than expected. See our custom mirror logo method guide for related planning questions.

View product details ↗Original protective film or newly applied film?
CHOIZIN can retain the protective film supplied on the stainless steel material or apply a new protective film later. These options have different costs and should be identified in the quotation.
| Film option | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Original material film | Whether retaining this film meets the requirements of the remaining processing, assembly and delivery stages. |
| Newly applied film | Required coverage, appearance, application stage and the additional charge. |
If inserts will go to another factory for assembly, specify when the film should be removed. For finished products, confirm whether the customer receives the mirror with film attached and whether a removal instruction is needed. Compare quotations on the same film basis.
Inspect the assembled product before final packaging
The mirror insert is normally paired with a leather sleeve, leather frame or another frame to form the finished product. After approving the insert, check the assembled sample:
- Does the insert fit the sleeve or frame correctly?
- Is it securely held, without unwanted movement or lifted areas?
- Does the frame leave the agreed mirror and logo area visible?
- Has assembly introduced bending or reflection distortion?
- Can the protective film be removed as intended?
- Does the finished item fit the final packaging?
For finished-product orders, retain the approved assembly and packaging samples as references for bulk delivery. State which party supplies each component and performs assembly so the price includes the agreed work. Read our custom packaging guide for packaging decisions.

Before you approve production
Frequently asked questions
Does choosing 304 or 316 automatically make the reflection clearer?
No. Approve the material requirement separately from the actual polished surface and finished flatness. Compare physical samples under the same conditions.
Can I use a laser-cut sample to approve bulk production?
It can help confirm the design and fit. Since our bulk outlines normally use stamping dies, also confirm the production-process result, particularly dimensions, edges and assembly, as applicable.
Is newly applied protective film included in every price?
No. Keeping the original material film and applying a new film are different quotation options. Specify which one you need and at what stage the film should be removed.
Should I approve only the mirror insert?
For an assembled-product order, also approve the mirror fitted into its sleeve or frame and check the final packaging. Assembly can affect fit, visible logo area and reflection.
